Swollen lymph nodes are a pain. Some essential oils for lymph node swelling can help relieve the pain, eliminate inflammation and promote the health of lymph nodes.
Why Do Lymph Nodes Swell?
Lymph nodes are part of the lymphatic system. They are small roundish glands distributed throughout the body.
The lymphatic system is very important in our body. It helps to transport fluid containing nutrients and waste matter between the bloodstream and tissues of the body.
Many of us may have experienced swollen lymph nodes at some point in our lives. Swollen lymph nodes can be painful and create discomfort.
When I was a child I used to get swollen lymph nodes on my neck pretty regularly. I was a pretty unhealthy kid and was on antibiotics almost every month of the year. Thankfully, things have changed for the better in my adult life!
So why do lymph nodes swell? The simple answer is, because there was impeded drainage of lymphatic fluid from the lymph glands.
Typical causes of lymph node swelling include:
- Injury
- Illness
- Tumors
- Infection
- Lack of movement/exercise
- Poor diet
The most common areas where lymph nodes swell are:
- Neck
- Under arms
- Pelvic region

How to Use Essential Oils for Lymph Node Swelling
There are 3 ways you can use essential oils to drain swollen lymph nodes. These include:
- Hot compresses containing essential oils
- Detox baths
- Lymphatic massage
As I mentioned earlier, massage is the single most powerful way to reduce lymph node swelling. So I’ll share a diy massage oil recipe and how you can apply it for best results.
DIY Lymph Node Massage Oil
Here’s a recipe for making your own lymph massage oil. It uses completely natural ingredients and is safe and non-toxic.
What you need:
- ½ cup of fractionated coconut oil (where to get it) or your carrier oil for massage of choice
- 10 drops of peppermint oil (where to get it)
- 10 drops of ginger oil (where to get it)
- 5 drops of frankincense oil (where to get it)
- Amber bottle for storage (where to get it)
Directions:
- Into 1/2 cup of fractionated coconut oil, add in your essential oils carefully.
- Use a glass rod or the back of a stainless steel spoon and stir the oil to get everything thoroughly distributed.
- Now soak a cotton washcloth in a bowl of hot water, wring the cloth to remove all the excess water and apply this cloth on your swollen areas. You can repeat this step 3 times or more, as you feel like.
- Once you have warmed up the area, it’s time to apply your potent diy lymphatic massage oil. Apply starting with gentle pressure and then begin stroking the area firmly. Work with your pain tolerance, don’t apply too much pressure if it hurts.
- Repeat this process 3 to 5 times a day.
“When Will My Lymph Nodes Get Back to Normal?”
Usually the body fixes lymph nodes on its own. But it can take anything from 1 week to months, in severe cases.
By using natural remedies like essential oils and hot compresses, you can give your body a helping hand and treat the problem in just 3 days.
I’ve had lymph nodes disappear in just one day with essential oil massage. On the flip side, without any natural remedies coupled with a busy schedule, I’ve had swollen lymph nodes on my neck remain for almost 2 weeks, which was quite a bummer.
