It’s time to go down with Downy and make your own using this easy DIY laundry scent booster recipe – and I’ll give you 5 good reasons why you should do so, too!
Going Green with Your Laundry Scent
When my son was born, I was one of those crunchy mamas that wanted to do extended breastfeeding, baby-led weaning and be all natural in every way I could. So cloth diapering was an automatic thing to for me to do. Except that it stank to the high heavens (not surprising since poo IS stinky). To cut down on the stink, I would use both heavily scented detergent and a conventional fabric booster and this is how it continued for a few weeks.
Until my son go a terrible rash. Diagnosis said it was eczema and apart from a prescribed ointment there was nothing else I could do. As suspected, the ointments didn’t work and the rash was uncomfortable and making my baby fussy.
I started eliminating all possible causes for the rash, including removing dairy and eggs (high allergenic foods) from my diet. The rash still wouldn’t go.
Then I stopped using conventional detergent and scent booster for my son’s cloths. Result? The rash completely disappeared in a few days! I’ll never go back to buying these products again.
I’m so excited to share with you my easy yet effective diy laundry scent booster recipe – but first, here are some reasons to motivate you to make your own:
5 Reasons to Make Your Own DIY Laundry Scent Booster
1. You Can Bypass the Nasty Chemicals – Did you know conventional laundry scent boosters are filled with toxic chemicals like synthetic fragrances and sodium laureth sulfate, which are known hormone disrupters and carcinogenic substances. Yikes! No, thanks, I’ll make my own instead!
2. You Can Customize It – When you’re buying fabric scent boosters from the store, you’ll have a range of only 2 or 3 flavors, at best. But at home, you can select and mix your own essential oil blends to create your favorite scents. Your laundry will be smelling EXACTLY the way you like it. I don’t know about you, but this alone makes me super excited!
3. It’s Budget-Friendly – Fabric scent boosters seem to run out so fast and at $10 a piece, it can soon get very costly. When you make your own DIY products at home, you can use the best quality ingredients and yet still save precious pennies. This can save you quite a bit of money in the long run.
4. It’s Safer for Babies and Sensitive Skin – Those with sensitive skin can react negatively harsh synthetic products. Common symptoms include itchiness, rashes and redness. Babies’ skin is especially sensitive, especially between 0 – 6 months of age, where the skin is not yet fully developed and is more permeable. By making your own natural laundry scent booster recipe, you are preserving the good health of you, and your baby.
5. DIY-ing Is A Fun Creative Outlet – Who knew making your own DIY products would be so fun? From experimenting with your own recipes to printing out cute labels, you get to have a chance to add fun and creativity to an otherwise boring adult life. I have to warn you though – it can get addictive!
