DIY Shampoo with Essential Oils – 3 Recipes

January 24, 2017 By Aspen Leave a Comment

Ever wondered how to make a DIY shampoo with essential oils? On this page, I’ll teach you how to make not one but three effective shampoos with essential oils. Each of them tackles three hair issues including: hair growth, dandruff & oily hair and silky hair.

The first two recipes foam and lather like conventional shampoos but the last one for dandruff/oily hair is non-sudsy. That’s because it doesn’t contain liquid castile soap. It does a great job of removing excess oils and fighting dandruff, in my opinion!

Okay, without further talk, let’s get on with the DIY essential oil shampoo recipes!

DIY Shampoo with Essential Oils – 3 Recipes

diy essential oil shampoo recipes

1. Hair Growth Shampoo Recipe with Coconut, Rosemary & Lavender

Looking to grow your hair long and strong? Try this DIY shampoo with essential oils starring coconut milk, aloe vera, rosemary and lavender! Here’s what each ingredient does:

  • Coconut milk – Long been used in South East Asia and the Philippines as a hair wash. Nourishes hair follicles thereby boosting hair growth. Strengthens hair strands. Prevents hair breakage and damage.
  • Aloe vera juice – Aloe vera has been used as a hair growth aid since Ancient Egypt. It soothes and cools the scalp. Fights scalp infections. Nourishes the hair follicles.
  • Rosemary oil – Best essential oil for hair growth. Stimulates blood circulation to the hair follicles. Supports healthy follicle growth. Awakens dormant hair follicles. Fosters growth of new hairs.
  • Lavender oil – Lavender is another top essential oil for hair growth. It allows hair follicles to be enriched with nutrient-rich blood. It also promotes silky and conditioned hair.

2. Silky Hair Shampoo with Geranium

Want silky soft locks? Use geranium, rose and almond on your hair! This DIY essential oil shampoo only contains one essential oil: geranium but it is designed to make your locks soft smooth and luscious! The key ingredients for conditioning hair include:

  • Rose water  – Hydrates and refreshes the scalp and reduces inflammation. Seals the hair cuticles. Scents hair. Softens frizzy unruly hair.
  • Almond oil – Moisturizes hair and promotes silken strands.
  • Geranium oil – Makes hair smell gorgeous. Conditions hair strands for easy detangling. Promotes luscious hair.
  • Baking soda – Scrubs off grime and dirt from the scalp. Removes stale oils. Deep cleanses the scalp. Adds volume to flat and oily hair.

What you need

  • 1/3 cup liquid castile soap (where to get it)
  • 1/3 cup rose water (where to get it)
  • 2 tsp baking soda (where to get it)

3. Anti-Dandruff & Oily Hair Shampoo with Tea Tree & Lemon: Non-Foamy Recipe!

For those of you who do not want a sudsy shampoo or liquid castile soap, this essential oil shampoo is for you! This shampoo is for one-time use only: you use it immediately you make it, unlike the above two. Check out what each of the ingredients is good for:

  • Rhassoul clay – Used for centuries by traditional Morrocan people to cleanse their hair. Has oil-absorbing properties. Makes hair soft and silky. Deeply cleanses the scalp and purifies hair follicles.
  • Green tea – Is a natural astringent which means it tightens the hair follicles. This reduces sebum secretion onto the scalp.
  • Tea tree oil – Has powerful anti-fungal, antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Fights fungi and Malassezia yeast that causes dandruff. Has astringent action.
  • Apple cider vinegar – Reduces excess oily scalp, fights dandruff, balances scalp pH.
  • Lemon oil – Balances scalp pH, fights dandruff, removes stale oils and excess sebum within the hair follicles and on the scalp. Has a deep cleansing effect.

What you need

  • ¼ cup rhassoul clay (where to get it)
  • Enough green tea (where to get it) or water to form a paste
  • 7 drops tea tree oil (where to get it)
  • 7 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar (where to get it)
  • Mixing bowl

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the rhassoul clay then slowly pour in your green tea or water slowly by slowly while sitting with a spoon or your fingers.
  2. When you create a medium-thick easily spreadable paste, stop adding the water.
  3. Add the essential oils and stir again.
  4. Your DIY essential oil shampoo without castile soap is ready!
  5. Slather on your scalp and hair strands then leave it to soak up dirt and oils for 2 minutes.
  6. Rinse off with tepid water then cold water.
