Wanna know a cool new trick to try out with essential oils? It’s DIY essential oil-infused honey!
What is essential oil-infused honey, you ask? Well, you must have heard of infusing herbs in honey right? It’s the same concept. Only instead of herbs, we shall be using essential oils! Since ancient times people used to infuse herbs into honey to create healing salves for the skin or for culinary purposes.
If you have never done this before, you gotta give it a shot! I’ve ever infused fresh ginger slices in honey for its cough and cold healing properties. It was very effective and delicious as well! Other herbs or spices you can infuse in honey include cinnamon, cardamom, lavender buds, rosemary, garlic, rose petals, powdered turmeric, mint, lemon balm, chamomile petals and more!

Infusing Essential Oils in Honey
Infusing herbs or spices is honey is mainly done for culinary or medicinal purposes. However, essential oil-infused honey is not edible. That’s because essential oils are not edible. Even if organic food grade oils such as lemon oil, oregano oil and peppermint oil can be consumed, it’s best to avoid consuming essential oils because they are too potent.
For example, for consumption purposes, you’d rather infuse fresh lemon rinds into honey than add lemon essential oil. That’s because approximately 3,000 lemon rinds are needed to produce just 2 pounds of lemon oil! So imagine the potency of one drop of lemon oil. Long story short, avoid consuming essential oils because they are too powerful.
