Homemade Shampoo with Essential Oils for Oily Hair

June 2, 2017 By Aspen 1 Comment

Try this homemade shampoo with essential oils for oily hair and scalp!

Got oily hair and a greasy scalp? It’s time to take matter into your own hands and make your own homemade shampoo. Conventional shampoos are good at removing oil from your hair. But the thing is – they end up removing ALL the oils even the natural oils needed to keep your hair moisturized and silky. So when your hair is stripped off all its natural oils, it goes into an overdrive – producing even more oils to make up for the lost oils. This causes a never ending cycle of oily hair.

That’s why, people are starting to ditch store-bought shampoos are start making their own gentle shampoos that balance natural oils on the scalp. Most of the shampoos that are DIYed do not foam a lot of lather and this is what makes them good for you. Sulfates in shampoo are the ingredients that make a shampoo lather a lot and this is what strips your hair of its natural oils. Although DIY shampoos do not lather much, they do work effectively in getting your hair clean and fresh.

What you need

  • 2 to 4 tbsp rhassoul clay (where to get it) *depending on your hair thickness and length
  • Green tea, cooled (where to get it)
  • 2 tsp liquid castile soap (where to get it)
  • 5 drops rosemary essential oil (where to get it)
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil (where to get it)
  • Mixing bowl

Directions

  1. All you have to do is dump 2 tbsp of rhassoul clay into a mixing bowl.
  2. Now add cooled green tea slowly by slowly into the clay while mixing gently with a spoon or your fingers to create a lump-less paste. Your paste should be not too thick and not too watery – just easily spreadable. If you’re using more than 2 tbsp of rhassoul clay, then add more green tea.
  3. Next, add 1 tbsp of liquid castile soap and carefully add 5 drops of rosemary oil and 5 drops of lavender essential oil.
  4. Mix everything together to form a nice spreadable mixture.
  5. Your homemade shampoo with essential oils for oily hair is ready!
  6. To use, take it to the shower with you. Wet your hair then work the mixture in using your fingers.
  7. Let it sit for a minute then rinse off well with tepid water. You can use a hair rinse of cooled green tea as the final hair rinse to condition your oily hair.
  8. Dry your hair as usual then marvel at your soft silky shiny locks!
  9. Use this shampoo thrice a week. Ideally, you should wash your hair every other day or every after three days to balance natural scalp oils.
