What Makes Essential Oils Good for Anti-Aging?
What makes an essential oil powerful for anti-aging are it’s:
→ Anti-oxidant properties: All essential oils are powerful antioxidants. This means they fight off scavenging free radicals which are unstable molecules that cause premature aging by stealing oxygen from healthy skin cells. The reason for this stealing is to take the oxygen for themselves to make them stable again. However, this process makes skin cells lifeless and degenerate. Essential oils not only ward off free radicals but also promote oxygenation of skin which feeds the skin cells with abundant oxygen to perform their functions optimally.
→ Collagen-boosting properties: There are some essential oils that actually boost collagen production which makes them superior in the field of anti-aging. Collagen is basically what keeps our skin and tissues glued together. Weakening and low amount of collagen in the facial skin leads to sagging and drooping skin. Among the best essential oils for collagen production are lemon, carrot seed, frankincense, geranium and neroli.
→ Astringent effects: Astringent means a substance that shrinks and constricts. This property of essential oils helps firm skin and keep it looking taut which promotes a youthful look. Astringent properties also minimize large pores that are unsightly and make skin produce more oils, look flawed and aged. Some of the best skin tightening essential oils can be found on this article on the website.

How to Make a Powerful Anti–Aging Essential Oil Blend
Okay, let’s get on to the powerful anti-aging essential oil blend! You will need a total of 5 anti-aging essential oils and 1 carrier oil of choice (choose according to your skin type in the section above).
For storage, I recommend using amber glass dropper bottle. Amber protects the delicate oils in the serum from light damage. You only need to use a few drops (2-4) on your whole face.
What you need
- 4 drops carrot seed oil
- 4 drops lemon oil
- 4 drops geranium oil
- 4 drops lavender oil
- 2 drops frankincense oil
- 2 tbsp carrier oil of choice
- 1 oz amber glass dropper bottle (where to get it)
Method
- Fill the glass dropper bottle with 2 tbsp of carrier oil then add the essential oils drop by drop.
- Screw on the dropper and give the bottle a gentle shake to combine all the oils.
- That’s it! Your powerful anti-aging essential oil blend is ready. Store it in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight.
- To use, place about 2 – 4 drops on one palm, then rub both your palms together and deeply massage it in gentle circular motions on your face: starting from the cheeks to the forehead to the chin.
- Do this at night time because this is when the skin regenerates and repairs itself. Also, the lemon oil, being a citrus oil, is photosensitive so this blend shouldn’t be worn on skin that’s going to be exposed to sunlight. If you want, you can replace the lemon oil for any other non-citrus oils but lemon is probably the best oil for collagen production!
