What is a face serum? It’s simply an oily substance that is meant to deliver powerful nutrients into the skin. A face serum is very nourishing and also keeps skin smooth, supple and moisturized. Conventional face serums often come with a slew of chemical ingredients including preservatives & artificial fragrance. Ick! Do you honestly want to put that on your face? Yet making your own serum is incredibly easy?!
A DIY essential oil face serum is the easiest thing you can make for your skin. It’s just a matter of combining together natural oils and essential oils in a dropper bottle. Before we get onto the recipes, I want to share which essential oils and carrier oils are good for each skin type:
Carrier Oils for Every Skin Type
- Normal skin – jojoba oil, almond oil, coconut oil
- Acne prone skin – argan oil, grapeseed oil, prickly pear oil, sunflower oil
- Dry skin – avocado oil, olive oil, wheat germ oil
- Oily skin – grapeseed oil, hemp oil, argan oil
- Sensitive skin – almond oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil
- Mature skin – coconut oil, rosehip oil, tamanu oil
- Combination skin – grapeseed oil, rosehip oil, apricot kernel oil
Essential Oils for Every Skin Type
- Normal skin – lavender, geranium, frankincense, rose, sandalwood

7 DIY Essential Oil Face Serum Recipes for All Skin Types
Main instructions
- Fill a 4 oz amber glass dropper bottle with 3 oz of your suitable carrier oil(s).
- Then add 25 drops of essential oils of choice.
- Cap tightly and gently roll the bottle between your palms to gently combine the oils. Do not shake the bottle because this will create air bubbles that will make your serum go rancid quickly.
