Makeup setting sprays add a finishing touch to makeup, giving your face a dewy glow. Unfortunately, many makeup setting sprays out there are artificial and contain toxic ingredients. Looking at the bright side, you can make your own DIY hydrosol makeup setting spray and this is a recipe I love so much!
Using hydrosols alone as a makeup setting spray is something I’ve been doing for ages. I use rose and neroli hydrosols in particular for their nourishing properties and oh-so-gorgeous scents.
However, you can keep your makeup looking even fresher and skin more dewy and glowing with the simple DIY hydrosol makeup setting spray recipe below.
Ingredients in this Recipe and How they Work
Before we jump onto the recipe, let’s first look at what role each of these ingredients play:
» Vegetable glycerin – It is a natural humectant which collects water from the surroundings and locks it into the epidermal layer of the skin. This keeps skin moisturized. Vegetable glycerin seals the skin, keeping your makeup look matte instead of shiny or cakey. It gives you that dewy soft skin look.
» Witch hazel hydrosol – Witch hazel is a natural astringent that tightens tones and firms skin. It also shrinks large pores. The main point of witch hazel in this DIY hydrosol makeup setting spray is that it reduces oiliness and keeps skin oil-free.
» Geranium hydrosol – Geranium is a skin balancer. It regulates sebum production, which is helpful for moisturizing dry skin and reducing oily skin.
