What is Poison Ivy?
Poison ivy is a type of poisonous plant. It can be found growing on hike trails and in people’s back yards. When something brushes against the plant, it releases a milky sap. If this sap comes into contact with human skin, it causes an allergic reaction. That’s because the sap contains urushiol oils, which irritates skin forming red, swollen, itchy skin with blisters.
If you’ve been in contact with a poison ivy plant, you will experience mild to severe allergic reactions. There are several home remedies that can soothe skin and get rid of poison ivy. Some of them include oatmeal baths, baking soda packs, banana peels, etc.
