Homemade Essential Oil Stain Remover (for 7 Kinds of Stains)

How do Essential Oils Help Stains?

Essential oils help break up any kind of stains because they are so potent. They also help freshen the stinky area by masking the smell with their own nice scents. The best essential oil for cleaning is lemon oil but other citrus essential oils, such as grapefruit, lime, mandarin, bergamot, etc can also be used. Below are essential oil stain remover recipes for the common kinds of stains on clothes:

Homemade Essential Oil Stain Remover for 7 Kinds of Stains

Below, we shall be using just a few very effective all-natural ingredients such as cream of tartar, vegetable glycerine, salt and baking soda to help remove the stains while being gentle on clothing. However, ingredients like hydrogen peroxide are strong and need to be handled with care. Also use care when handling the essential oils. Be sure to do a patch test if there is any concern on colorfastness of the garment.

1. Grass Stains

What you need

  • 1 tbsp cream of tartar (where to get it)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable glycerine (where to get it)
  • 1 tbsp liquid castile soap (where to get it)
  • 7 drops lemon oil (where to get it)

Method

  1. Rub the cream of tartar on the stain, let it sit for 10 minutes then rinse it off well.
  2. Mix vegetable glycerine, liquid castile soap and lemon oil together and rub it on the stain. Leave it on for 5 minutes then rinse the area and put the garment in the wash.

2. Ketchup, Oil/Grease & Grass Stains
 
What you need

  • ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide (where to get it)
  • 2 tbsp liquid castile soap (where to get it)
  • 20 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
  • 8 oz amber glass spray bottle (where to get it)
  • Corn starch (where to get it)

Method

  1. Mix up the ingredients, except corn starch, and store in the spray bottle.
  2. Spray on the stain, sprinkle the cornstarch on top and leave it to soak for about 10 minutes.
  3. Rinse well then put the garment to wash.

3. Ink Stains

What you need

  • Equal parts vegetable glycerine (where to get it) and cream of tartar (where to get it)
  • 10 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
  • 10 drops rosemary oil (where to get it)

Method

  1. Mix up the vegetable glycerine, cream of tartar and essential oils and rub onto the stain.
  2. Leave it on for 15 minutes then rinse off well in warm water.
  3. Repeat if necessary then wash the garment.

4. Coffee/Tea Stains

What you need

  • 1 tsp borax (where to get it)
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 7 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
  • 7 drops grapefruit oil (where to get it)
  • Amber glass spray bottle (where to get it)

Method

  1. Add the ingredients to the spray bottle and shake well to combine.
  2. Spray onto the stain, rinse with cold water then put the garment to wash.

5. Sweat Stains

What you need

  • 1 tbsp baking soda (where to get it)
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 10 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
  • 5 drops orange oil (where to get it)
  • Water

Method

  • Mix the ingredients together with enough water to create a paste that’s not too watery.
  • Rub it on the stains then leave it on for an hour before washing.

6. Red Fruit Stains

What you need

  • Cream of tartar (where to get it)
  • 5 drops eucalyptus oil (where to get it)
  • 5 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
  • Hot water
  • Vegetable glycerine (where to get it)

Method

  1. Mix the cream of tartar and eucalyptus and lemon oils.
  2. Rub the stain with a little of the above mixture.
  3. Leave it on for 10 minutes then rinse in hot water.
  4. Repeat until you get as much as the stain gone.
  5. Then rub vegetable glycerine on the stain and put the garment to wash.

7. Blood Stains

What you need

  • ¼ cup hydrogen peroxide (where to get it)
  • 2 tbsp liquid castile soap (where to get it)
  • 20 drops lemon oil (where to get it)

Method

  1. Mix the ingredients together in an amber glass spray bottle.
  2. Spray onto the blood stain until soaked then leave it on for 30 minutes.
  3. After 30 minutes, soak the garment in cold water overnight and wash the next day.
