What is this Essential Oil Salt Scrub Good for?
A salt scrub is good for many things: scrubbing off dead cells, exfoliating skin, deep cleansing skin and so on. But what makes an essential oil salt scrub special?
Its the therapeutic properties and scent, people! Essential oils are made up of numerous natural chemical compounds such as terpenes, oxides, ketones and more. These compounds are responsible for giving every oil it’s unique scent and therapeutic properties.
Lemon for example, has a happy citrus scent that uplifts dull moods and lifts the spirit. It has an invigorating effect on skin, helps deep cleanse skin, remove dead cells and dirt and kill germs on the skin. Meanwhile lavender has a calming scent that relaxes the mind and promotes peace. It has a moisturizing and balancing effect on skin.

Homemade Essential Oil Salt Scrub with Invigorating Lemon Oil
What you need
- 1 ½ cups Epsom salts (where to get it)
- ½ cup fractionated coconut oil (where to get it)
- 20 drops lemon oil (where to get it)
- 16 oz mason jar (where to get it)
- Mixing spoon
Method
- Place the Epsom salts in the mason jar then pour in the fractionated coconut oil.
- Add in the drops of lemon oil and using your mixing spoon, start stirring the two ingredients until they combine into a soft but gritty scrub.
- Put the lid on and that’s it! Your essential oil salt scrub is ready!
- Store it in the refrigerator and every time you need a good scrubbin’ just put about 2 – 3 tbsp in a bowl and take it to the shower with you.
- Scrub it on wet skin in gentle circular motions.
Notes
You can of course add any other invigorating essential oils such as peppermint, rosemary, sweet basil or even try relaxing and moisturizing oils like lavender, cedarwood, geranium and others! The possibilities are endless!
You can even keep the essential oil salt scrub in the mason jar completely essential oil–free. Then when you’re going to use the scrub, drop in any essential oils you feel like! Maybe orange if you’re feeling depressed, lavender if you’re feeling restless, etc. Remember for every tsp of the salt scrub, you’ll need about 1–2 drops of essential oil.
Caution
- Some people might be sensitive to lemon oil. Please always do a patch test to see if you might be allergic/sensitive. To do a patch test, mix 1 drop of lemon oil in 1 tsp of any plant oil like olive oil. Rub it on your inner elbow and monitor the area for about 1 – 2 hours. If you notice any skin irritation like burning, itching, redness and rashes, then immediately wash the area with warm water and a mild soap. Do not use the essential oil on your body. - Lemon oil is photosensitive so please do not wear it on your skin when going out in the sun! You may suffer from chemical burns if UV rays and the lemon oil on your skin react together.
