7 Best Essential Oils for Henna Paste – Get A Dark Rich Color Fast

February 2, 2017 By Aspen Leave a Comment

In this post, we show you how you can use essential oils for henna paste. Get ready for a dark rich color!

Henna is a form of body art that’s temporary in nature. People in the Indian and Arabian continent have been using it for ages. Women usually put on henna on their hands and feet before important functions like weddings, parties and gatherings to beautify themselves. It looks so exotic and beautiful! Try it out by buying this good quality henna powder.

Henna is also used to dye hair a deep red color. Natural red-heads can use it to deepen their hair color and cover up gray hairs. Brunettes or dark haired people can use it to give their hair subtle brownish reddish highlights and mask their gray hairs too.

If you’re into temporary body tattooing and natural hair coloring, then you must have heard of henna paste. It’s a plant-based dye got from grinding up henna leaves and mixing it with water and lemon juice or strong black tea.

Other ingredients like essential oils are also added to enhance the color! Let’s look at the top essential oils to give your henna a beautiful dark color:

7 Best Essential Oils for Henna Paste

1. Cajeput essential oil (where to get it)
2. Ravensara essential oil (where to get it)
3. Niaouli essential oil (where to get it)
4. Eucalyptus essential oil (where to get it)
5. Tea tree essential oil (where to get it)
6. Geranium essential oil (where to get it)
7. Lavender essential oil (where to get it)

How to Make Henna Paste with Essential Oils

What you Need

  • ¼ cup pure fresh henna powder (where to get it)
  • ¼ cup lemon juice (where to get it)
  • 1.5 tsp white sugar (where to get it)
  • 10 drops ravensara oil (where to get it)
  • 7 drops cajeput oil (where to get it)
  • 9 drops lavender oil (where to get it)
  • 7 drops geranium oil (where to get it)
  • Medium sized glass bowl & spoon
  • Henna applicator cones (where to get it)
  • Electric stand mixer *optional (where to get it)

Method

  1. Sift your henna using a fine mesh to remove any tiny stems.
  2. Dump ¼ cup of henna powder into your bowl.
  3. Now add the lemon juice while stirring so that no clumps form. Stop when you get a thick yogurt-like consistency. If you don’t reach that consistency, you may need to add more lemon juice. Do not add a lot as your paste will be runny and make the henna bleed out when you’re applying it to skin.
  4. Next, add the sugar and essential oils.
  5. Stir again to achieve a smooth, silky henna paste. You need to keep stirring until you get a creamy lump-free paste. If you want, you can place the bowl under your electric stand mixer to do the mixing job for you.
  6. Once done mixing, tightly cover the bowl with plastic wrap.
  7. Store it in a warm place (80 F) for 24 hours for the henna color to darken and form a perfect henna paste.
  8. When the time is up, stir the paste very well to make it smoother and creamier. If the mixture has gotten is still too thick after mixing, you may add more lemon juice, tsp by tsp until you achieve the desired consistency. Once again, do not add a lot of lemon juice.
  9. Now fill your henna cones with this paste and enjoy!
